Our shared hosting backup strategy compromises weekly hot-swap 'images' and nightly backups to a dedicated backup server. Multiple backups are maintained and rotated to ensure 1 week of changes with weekly, monthly, and yearly archives. Weekly backups are transferred to an offsite location along with the hot-swap images. In the event of a total failure, the hot-swap 'image' drives are reinserted into the server providing an instant recovery. Next, the daily backups are applied, returning the server to the state from the last backup. InterSpots stresses that the advantages of the 'image' drive avoids prolonged downtime since a reinstall of the OS and all the associated patches are not needed, they are already in the 'image'. As well, images save time from having to configure the operating system, getting it exactly in the state it was before the crash. If you require backups to be performed more frequently, please contact us for a custom solution.
